Nga Roto-o-Rangataua (Ohakune Lakes) Scenic Reserve

Ohakune Lakes is a gentle walk on well-graded tracks through mature native bush. This bike and dog-friendly loop is home to abundant birdlife such as Kereru, Waxeye, Tui and Piwakawaka.

Getting there:

A short distance from Ohakune, on the Ohakune – Raetihi rd, turn left into Lakes Rd. The car park is on your right after approx 150m.
It is possible to cycle the short distance from Ohakune; for the fit and adventurous, a loop ride is possible if you follow Lakes Road, turning into Ratamaire Rd. Follow Ratamaire Road past the cemetery and bear left at the junction. A short downhill will see you cross SH49 and onto the tar seal of Mangatietie Rd. Turn left into Dreadnought Rd and follow the railway line to Ohakune junction, crossing the line at Ruapehu Rd before turning into Railway Row.

Note: Ratamaire Rd is a seasonal road suitable for 4-wheel drive vehicles only. It can become impassable in vehicles after significant rain.
