Ketetahi Falls

Ketetahi Falls

From the car park, an easy, well-graded trail gently climbs through native bush for 10 minutes before a sidetrack appears on your right as the roar of the waterfall can be heard. Two minutes along the track, a picturesque waterfall rages in a dog-leg formation alongside the trail and out of sight.

This short walk features a significant amount of bird life, including Tui, Rifleman, and Kereru.

Accessed is from the Tongariro Alpine Crossing car park on State Highway 46, approximately 30 minutes from Turangi or National Park.

As seen in our Issues four days episode on YouTube.

Note: The Tongariro Crossing should be walked from Whakapapa to Ketetahi. We do not recommend starting the crossing from the Ketetahi end. Always prepare for changeable weather in an alpine environment when attempting the Tongariro Crossing.

For safety information in relation to the Tongariro Crossing, contact the Department of Conservation or Mountain Safety Council.
