Whakarewarewa Loop Cycle Trail

Whakarewarewa Loop Cycle Trail

Once described as the Disneyland of mountain biking, Whakarewarewa forest in Rotorua is now the kingdom of all things offroad cycling in New Zealand, including one of New Zealand's Nga Haerenga Cycle Trails.

The trail has two official start points, with modern amenity-equipped car parks. Beginning at the main car park just 10 minutes from central Rotorua, the 35km trail is a mix of well-groomed single-track and gravel forestry roads and short sections of shared trails.

The flowing trail is perfect for all levels of rider. What it lacks in technical riding, it makes up for in atmosphere and ever-changing scenery, with spectacular views of Rotorua and the Blue and Green lakes before coming out on the Te Ara Ahi cycle trail for a mostly downhill run to town.

Pack a snack and enjoy a break on one of the many benches at the scenic viewpoints.
