One of many riverside free camping spots in the greater Pohangina area, Raumai Reserve is the closest to Ashurst, offering a large grassy area for camping and toilet facilities. The river is as accessible as it is scenic, with riverside camping possible for vehicle camping.

This reserve is popular with day trippers exercising their dogs, picnicing and a late night hang out spot for local insomniacs. Sadly it also has a reputation for attracting litter bugs.

A popular campsite in peak times and worth the consideration while exploring Pohangina valley and greater Manawatu.

Getting there:

From Pohangina Rd, turn into Pohangina Valley Rd East, arriving at Raumai reserve a short distance away at the curve in the road before crossing the river.
