Omaru Falls

A short walk for the whole family. The walk, approximately an hour return, begins with a short walk across farmland before entering the bush for 10-15 minutes. Mostly flat, the track follows the Mapiu stream to a swing bridge, where it opens up on the other side, offering multiple viewpoints and a picnic spot near a smaller, unnamed waterfall. The viewing platform for the 45m Omaru falls is reached after a short climb up a staircase.

Getting there: Accessed from SH4 between 8 Mile Junction and Mapiu on Omaru Rd. The trail begins at a small roadside car park,a short distance down Omaru Road. Larger vehicles, such as motorhomes, may encounter issues with parking and turning. Our visit in Truant required reversing out to SH4.
