Kohitere Trig Walkway

Kohitere Trig Walkway

Overlooking the township of Levin is the Kohitere trig. A steep, yet accessible walk, the walkway follows a gravel forestry road to the ridge, where the track forks. Head right to a 5-way junction, and take the middle track to the trig.

Mature pine trees blocked the views towards Levin and the coast at the time of visiting, but the views out to the Tararuas made up for it.

The walk, approx 3km each way to the trig, with the climb/descent being 2km in each direction, is a popular fitness loop for locals.

Note: At the time of visiting, much of the mature forest had been harvested, with works underway to reinstate the mountain bike and walking trails. In a future visit, these will be explored, and the bio updated.
